Silk Road filmfest honors 2 Iranian titles

The 8th Silk Road Int’l Film Festival in Ireland honors 2 Iranian titles.

The 8th edition of the Silk Road International Film Festival (SRIFF) in Ireland has honored two Iranian titles.

Directed by Farnoush Abedi, the 11-minute animation ‘Malakout’ received Special Mention Short award at the Irish event.

The animation is about a piano player who tries to bring his wife back to life but the deal awakens the devil inside him.

“Music was his passion… Love was his masterpiece…” a short synopsis for the animation reads.

Directed by Arman Qolipour-Dashtaki, the 11-minute ‘Captain 22’ won Best Short Documentary award at the Irish event.

It tells the life story of Ali Khosh-Elham, a young boy who loves football but he starts to try drugs. Then he fulfills to quit his addiction and returns to football.

The other Iranian titles at the Irish event were the short titles ‘M Like Mobius’ by Faranak Moradi and ‘The Sixth Term of Time’ by Elham Mortazavi, as well as the feature-length ‘No.3 Azar-Shahr Street’ by Kambiz Safari.

Founded in 2012, the SRIFF is fast becoming an international acclaimed film festival, which is held annually in Dublin, Ireland. The festival also holds year-round screenings, talks and events.

As well as screening international films there is a special selection of films from the “Silk Road”, countries part of the historical network of the Silk Road ancient trade routes. The selection called “BRFFA – Belt & Road International Film Festival Alliance” includes Asian, Arab, Middle Eastern, African, Mediterranean and European cinema.

The SRIFF identifies emerging international talent and connects them with audiences and industry.

The 8th edition of the SRIFF was held on January 21-25, 2020.
